Inside the Mind of a Pro: Romain Lewis the tightrope walker

By in

Rotating between aggressive and patient play, luck and lack thereof, Romain Lewis puts on a show in his return as the star of your favourite poker series.

DLTDP Romain Lewis EN #2 VignetteRomain Lewis' last performance in front of the cameras of Inside the Mind of a Pro nearly three years ago ended with a frustrating aftertaste: a 45th place finish in the 5K 6-max that did not reflect an idyllic 2018 WSOP campaign, made up of three podiums in Las Vegas followed by a fourth shortly after in Rozvadov. Enough to bring the former youngest member of Team Winamax into a new dimension. A prodigy of the French scene, he was building an international reputation, which he put to the test the following year by finishing in 60th place (the highest ranking Frenchman) in the Main Event before bagging what remains to this day his biggest cash: a third place worth €428,000 in the partypoker MILLIONS in Rozvadov.

In short, by the time the members of R2D2 choose to make him the second hero of this new season of DLTDP, Romain Lewis is a brand new player, more confident in himself and his strengths; more at ease in front of the cameras too. And at the same time, he stays true to himself. True to his instincts and habits as a live player, he doesn't hesitate to deviate from the traditional methods to allow himself a little more creativity and aggressiveness than the average player. This has already allowed him to reach four paid spots, both at the Rio and on the Strip, prior to this $2,500 fullring event. But of course, a competitor like him wants more.

With thirty blinds in front of him to take over from his buddy Mustapha Kanit, the Bordeaux native is navigating in a limbo zone in which events can quickly swing either way. But that doesn't stop him from delivering a bewilderingly rich array of shots in fifty minutes against known and recognised names on the circuit such as Sam Grafton, Felipe Ramos and André Akkari. The road to the paid seats is still long, but Romain's talent is infinite. So if you haven't seen him play in a while, you won't find a better way to find out.
