Alexandre Luneau joins Team Winamax

By in

One of the best cash-game players in the world is set to take the tournament circuit by storm as part of Team Winamax.

What, another member of the Pro Team? Yes indeed, yet another new recruit has joined the Team Winamax ranks, just a few weeks after the arrival of Pierre Calamusa and Aurélie Quelain. And this isn't just any recruit, this is Alexandre Luneau! The man himself, participant of countless epic cash-game battles against the likes of Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Isildur1, and Rui Cao, with hundreds of thousands of dollar swings possible each day, a man who has over the years mastered almost every game (Hold'em, Deuce to Seven, Stud, Razz...), a man who plays 200,000 of the highest stakes hands each year, a man who Phil Ivey himself holds in high esteem, saying, "You need to play the best to keep improving" when sitting down to play Alex. No small compliment.

All that to say that we are extremely excited to welcome such a renowned figure to the Team. If you've followed his progress, you'll know that he generally avoids the limelight, leaving his online exploits to do the talking for him, agreeing to very few interviews with the media as he prefers to concentrate on his game, working to become a competitor feared by the biggest and best in the world. It's only recently that he decided to open up, giving Victor Saumont and his camera a glimpse into his life and that of his loyal friend (and high-stakes colleague) Sébastian Sabic, in the internationally successful documentary, Nosebleed.

As part of Team Winamax, Alex will obviously be more exposed to the world. His goal is simple: do on the live tournament circuit that which he has accomplished in online cash-games... and win a World Series bracelet! "It will be an incredible experience to join the Team on the live circuit," said Alex, "it's a hugely successful team, with endurance, and a consistency established over many years, which is rare to see. I can't wait to work as part of the group!"

"It's with great happiness and enthusiasm that we welcome Alex to the group," responded Team Coach Stéphane Matheu, "He is undeniably known as one of the best cash-game players in the world and he joins the Team with real motivation and ambitious goals to also become a great tournament player. The experience present in the Team will definitely help him in this regard, and I'm convinced he'll bring a lot to the team too, with his rigor, disciplined approach and hard work.

His new teammate, Sylvain Loosli is also ecstatic: "Alex is a very good friend, and an excellent player, probably the most brilliant that I know. He has a true passion for the game and is a hard worker. He didn't get to this level by accident!"

Alexandre Luneau will make his Team Winamax debut this week-end, at the opening tournament of the Winamax Poker Tour, among the 2,000 amateur players brought together at the Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris. We'll also find him in Marrakech next May for the next Winamax SISMIX, at Monte Carlo for the European Poker Tour Grand Final, and of course at the World Series of Poker 2016, where his schedule is jam-packed. "I'm going to play every step of the Stud Championship, Deuce to Seven, Omaha, Razz…" All while keeping the most prestigious in sight: the infamous $50,000 Poker Players' Championship, where no less than ten different poker variants are played.

On Winamax, Alex can be found under the name "Alexonmoon".
